Wenceslas Square is the most popular place to stay in Prague. Thousands of tourists are attracted to the shopping, young travellers are seeking here for the entertainment and nightlife all around, as there are most popular clubs here, and older people can enjoy cup of hot coffee in the quite restaurants and coffee-shops, along with the fact that most of Prague's sights and attractions lie within easy walking distance. From Wenceslas Square it is possible to walk anywhere in central Prague, as Old Town Square, New Town, Vinohrady.
The 750 meters long and 60 meters wide boulevard that makes up Wenceslas Square was laid out over 600 years ago during the reign of Charles IV and was originally used as the main Prague horse market. Over the years it has been a regular parade ground for all kinds of organisations and political parties. From anti-communist uprisings to winning the World Ice Hockey Championships, this is where Czech's come to protest and to celebrate. Wenceslas Square can comfortably hold up to 400,000 people! At the top of Wenceslas Square, the statue of St. Wenceslas on his horse cuts a striking figure. This is good King Wenceslas (Vaclav), taht was killed over a thousand years ago by his brother, and now he is a Czech national hero. The square and the area around the square are known for fine restaurants and great shopping. Wenceslas Square is also a convenient location from which to explore the rest of the city. Many of Prague's major sights are within easy walking distance of here. Also there is a biggest muzeum on the top of Wenceslas Square. Nation Muzeum is famous for its rare exponats and animal exhibition.
